Which Would You Rather? Chevy Volt or Nissan Leaf?

TheGMSource - The decision making officially begins today as we now know the cost of both the Chevrolet Volt and the Nissan Leaf. Chevrolet had previously announced an 8/yr - 100k mile warranty on the battery pack used to power the Volt for up to 40 miles of gasoline free driving. At the time of the Volts warranty announcement we didn't yet know what warranty the Nissan Leaf would have. Well, today not only do we know what the cost of the Nissan Leaf is, we also know the cost of the Chevrolet Volt. We also know what the battery will be for the Nissan Leaf and we want to know all things considered...which would you rather?

Chevrolet Volt On Sale For $33,500 This Fall

TheGMSource - Chevrolet is so confident in the overall value of the Volt that the brand will offer a lease program on the Volt with a monthly payment as low as $350 for 36 months at Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price with $2,500 due at lease signing, including security deposit based on current conditions, which could vary at time of delivery.

TheGMSource - The Chevrolet Volt electric vehicle with extended range will provide customers with an unprecedented, standard, eight-year/100,000-mile warranty on its advanced, lithium-ion battery. It is the automotive industry’s longest, most comprehensive battery warranty for an electric vehicle, and is transferable at no cost to other vehicle owners.

Hey GM - Can I Watch My Volt Being Made?

TheGMSource - As you may have heard, Chevrolet announced earlier this week that buyers of the 2011 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 or ZR1 can choose an option to help assemble their cars’ LS7 or LS9 engines at General Motors’ Performance Build Center (PBC) in Wixom, Mich. The fun doesn't stop there. Buyers can also fly (or drive) down to Bowling Green, Kentucky to watch their Corvette be made and they also have the option of attend driving school in Arizona or Nevada, and take delivery of their vehicles at the National Corvette Museum.

Chevy Volt Battery To Have Longer Powertrain Warranty Then Conventional Vehicle

TheGMSource - We all know that GM will be looking to ride the release of the Chevy Volt as long as it can, hoping to capture some of the energy and bottle it up for future use. There are however, several question marks on the Volt, even though it is roughly 14 weeks away from the start of consumer sale. We don't know what colors it will come in, we don't know what options it will have, we don't even know how much it will cost. Perhaps the biggest question mark for customers other then retail cost is, what will the warranty be on the Volts battery pack? Today we're supposed to find out, but we've got a sneak peak at what GM's announcement will bring in just a few hours.

First Scoop: Chevrolet Working On Two Caprice Police Vehicles

TheGMSource - It's no secret to enthusiasts of both Pontiac and Chevrolet that buyers are screaming for a version of the Pontiac G8 to come states side. We know that the Chevrolet Caprice has been approved for police agencies around the country and has previously been said to remain a fleet only car.

TheGMSource has uncovered some new information that leads us to believe the Caprice may also be available for retail sale as well. The information is speculation and only speculation at this point but hear us out never-the-less.

Three Chevrolet's Named "Ideal Vehicles" By AutoPacific

TheGMSource - New GM will need the success of Chevrolet if it wishes to be a profitable, healthy company once more. Recently, the Chevy Camaro received an award from Edmunds.com, just one of several awards its won already. Today we can notch up one other honor for not only the Camaro, but also for the recently launched Equinox and Suburban.

Silicon Valley Investing In Detroit Jump Start Company EcoMotors

TheGMSource - I've been following EcoMotors since the companies inception just two years ago. Their technology is interesting and they have quite the collection of engineering talent to make their new groundbreaking engine technology come to reality. Several months ago it was rumored that EcoMotors was interested in purchasing GM's former Livonia Engine facility. As you know, Livonia produced the groundbreaking (at the time) Northstar V8 engine for Cadillac and premium Buick vehicles.

While the company has yet to secure funds to purchase the now closed GM facility, we do have new word on a big name investor that just pumped millions into EcoMotors.

TheGMSource - Oh how we've missed you, Bob. My man-crush. The cigar smokin', stock sellin', helicopter flyin', recently retired, favorite automotive executive can now add one more title to an already long and exhausting list. Bob King Is The New UAW President

TheGMSource - When UAW President Ron Gettlefinger announced his retirement last year Bob King was pegged as his replacement. King, who has lead Fords negotations for years has said he would like to end the concessions the UAW has agreed to in recent years in an attempt to keep Chrysler, GM and Ford out of bankruptcy. It worked at Ford, not so much at GM and Chrysler.

EXCLUSIVE: The UAW Now Supports Three Tier Wages

TheGMSource - A few months back we were the very first to tell you that GM's new battery plant located in Browntown Township, Michigan was not under the control of the UAW. The new plant was able to duck UAW representation because the new assembly facility is not part of traditional GM plants.

Instead, the new facility is part of a new entity of GM created in bankrupcty called "GM Subsystem Manufacturing LLC." This allowed GM to hire its own employees and not have to go through the UAW. But, as we tweeted about last week, the UAW is no representive employees at the GM Brownstown location, which leads us to point out that the UAW now supports not only two-tier wages, but three tier wages as well.

GM Shows Future Product In New Loan Repayment Ad

TheGMSource - General Motors has a new ad campaign, this you know about. I applaud the automaker for repaying the U.S. Government back, with interest on bailout loans given to the automaker when it emerged from bankruptcy. If you paid attention at the video outlining the accomplishment, you'll notice a vehicle not yet confirmed for production, but clearly part of the focus of the New GM.

Losing Billions & Formerly Bankrupt GM Finds Millions For Advertising Deal

TheGMSource - Last year ahead of GM filing for bankruptcy they went on a major cut in advertising dollars. They pulled their name from popular sporting events, dropped corporate sponsorships in various media outlets and cut back in ad spending. We also reported back in April of last year that GM had lost its sponsorship of the fountain at Comerica Park where the Detroit Tigers play.

That lead the Illitches to "donate" the fountain to GM, Ford and Chrysler with the above logo. Today, we have news that might not sit well with some readers of TheGMSource.

Well, lots has changed in recent months. Causley no longer sells Pontiac, they now sell Buick and continue to sell GMC's. A few days ago, a Buick rolled onto their lots as a trade-in on a new Buick model. What was traded in and how pristine is this Buick? Exclusive: Bob Lutz Retirement Put On Hold

TheGMSource - We told you last year that Maximum Bob Lutz was putting retirement on hold after he announced plans to leave the company. Nobodoy believed us then because of the date we published the story. Yes, it was April 1st, and yes today is April 1st.

Last year we reported that Lutz was swayed from the Obama administration to stay on at the New GM (there's the story, read it for yourself) once it emerged from bankruptcy. Ok, so we had some of the details wrong at the time, that's what happens when you're dealing with a major company and sometimes an executive bigger then the company itself, much like Lutz is.

What we did get right were two things: Lutz didnt' retire, and they did infact create a new job title specifically for Lutz, two things we called. Today, we're telling you again, Lutz' retirement is once again, on hold.

TheGMSource - One thing has become increasingly clear since Ed Whitacre Jr., became GM's CEO. There's a great deal of pressure to either perform, or be replaced by somebody who will perform. Sort of how the saying goes "sh!t or get off the pot." Today we've learned a few people have either gotten off the proverbial pot on their own or they were forced off.

Not only were significant changes made today, but Mark Reuss, GM President North America declared that "this is my team" meaning he will bear the full brunt of any success or failure for GM North America. That has to be admired.

However, Ford just released their sales figures and they are quite impressive to say the least. The company sold 43% more vehicles then February last year. This allowed Ford to outsell General Motors for the first time in more then a decade.
