Big Ed Whitacre Jr., Announces Retirement From GM...We Start The WE WANT BOB Chant

TheGMSource - A pretty big bombshell has just been dropped on the entire GM fanscape. Current CEO Ed Whitacre, Jr., has announced he is stepping down from his post as CEO effective September 1st. Ed will stick around as chairman until the end of the year, at which point GM's new Chairmand and CEO will be 61 year old board member Dan Ackerson. Ackerson has been with the GM Board of Directors since July 2009.

How Does GM Meet Capacity Issues? Simple...Use Shuttles

TheGMSource - What do you do when you're product is so hot that you've already added a third shift to help address demand issues and it doesn't seem to work? Do you build a new plant? Do you add capacity and retool another plant? GM says both ideas would take too much time to implement, and has come up with an idea that has added capacity for 60,000 to 80,000 new vehicles and the idea only took months to implement.

Bob Lutz Goes Political: Joins Republican Party In Michigan

TheGMSource - Oh how we've missed you, Bob. My man-crush. The cigar smokin', stock sellin', helicopter flyin', recently retired, favorite automotive executive can now add one more title to an already long and exhausting list. In addition to being the best automotive executive in history (yes, history. Go ahead try to tell me different) Bob has recently announced his support for a Republican candidate for Governor of Michigan.

Bob King Is The New UAW President

TheGMSource - When UAW President Ron Gettlefinger announced his retirement last year Bob King was pegged as his replacement. King, who has lead Fords negotations for years has said he would like to end the concessions the UAW has agreed to in recent years in an attempt to keep Chrysler, GM and Ford out of bankruptcy. It worked at Ford, not so much at GM and Chrysler.

GM Shows Future Product In New Loan Repayment Ad

TheGMSource - General Motors has a new ad campaign, this you know about. I applaud the automaker for repaying the U.S. Government back, with interest on bailout loans given to the automaker when it emerged from bankruptcy. If you paid attention at the video outlining the accomplishment, you'll notice a vehicle not yet confirmed for production, but clearly part of the focus of the New GM.

Losing Billions & Formerly Bankrupt GM Finds Millions For Advertising Deal

TheGMSource - Last year ahead of GM filing for bankruptcy they went on a major cut in advertising dollars. They pulled their name from popular sporting events, dropped corporate sponsorships in various media outlets and cut back in ad spending. We also reported back in April of last year that GM had lost its sponsorship of the fountain at Comerica Park where the Detroit Tigers play.

That lead the Illitches to "donate" the fountain to GM, Ford and Chrysler with the above logo. Today, we have news that might not sit well with some readers of TheGMSource.

EXCLUSIVE: Former GM CEO Fritz Henderson Moving Out And Moving On

TheGMSource - The man that helped run one of the largest companies into the ground is moving out, and moving on we've learned. Fritz Wagoner Jr.'s house located in metro-Detroit has recently been sold to a family member of a powerful, popular family that has created their wealth here in Michigan.

GM Loses $4.3 Billion From July To December

TheGMSource - We here at TheGMSource thought that bankruptcy was used as a means to clean one companies balance sheet so said company can show a PROFIT once it emerges from the courts protection. Well, GM has announced that it lost $4.3 Billion  from July until December of last year.

This begs the question: What was the point of bankruptcy?

Exclusive: Bob Lutz Retirement Put On Hold

TheGMSource - We told you last year that Maximum Bob Lutz was putting retirement on hold after he announced plans to leave the company. Nobodoy believed us then because of the date we published the story. Yes, it was April 1st, and yes today is April 1st.

Last year we reported that Lutz was swayed from the Obama administration to stay on at the New GM (there's the story, read it for yourself) once it emerged from bankruptcy. Ok, so we had some of the details wrong at the time, that's what happens when you're dealing with a major company and sometimes an executive bigger then the company itself, much like Lutz is.

What we did get right were two things: Lutz didnt' retire, and they did infact create a new job title specifically for Lutz, two things we called. Today, we're telling you again, Lutz' retirement is once again, on hold.

Cadillac DTS Unseats Lexus LS460 As Best Quality Car

TheGMSource - GM won big in the latest J.D. Power quality rankings. For the first time in several years a domestic car was named the overall best car in quality, it is the Cadillac DTS. It's the first time in more then a decade a domestic car was rated overall best quality. In addition to the DTS making an impressive showing, Buick also made great strides in quality.

Officially Official: GM NOT Using UAW Help In Volt Battery Plant

TheGMSource - About a month ago we wrote about a tip that ran across our desk that suggested GM was opening its new Brownstown Township Volt battery plant without the help of the UAW. Today, that rumor became truth as the Detroit Free Press reported that GM is indeed going to open the plant without the help of the UAW, and the UAW may never be in the plant at all.

Mark Reuss Makes Major North American Management Changes

TheGMSource - One thing has become increasingly clear since Ed Whitacre Jr., became GM's CEO. There's a great deal of pressure to either perform, or be replaced by somebody who will perform. Sort of how the saying goes "sh!t or get off the pot." Today we've learned a few people have either gotten off the proverbial pot on their own or they were forced off.

Not only were significant changes made today, but Mark Reuss, GM President North America declared that "this is my team" meaning he will bear the full brunt of any success or failure for GM North America. That has to be admired.

 Bob Lutz Debating Retirement

TheGMSource - The cigar smokin', stock sellin', helicopter flyin', favorite automotive executive of ours here at TheGMSource has made some comments on the side of the Geneva Motor Show that we don't support in the least. He's debating retirement, saying he's taking retirement an "active consideration."

Sources: Major Management Changes Coming Tuesday

TheGMSource - When will they end? Seemingly never. I'm not talking about Toyota recalls...or maybe I am. In all seriousness I'm talking about management changes on the 13th floor of GM's RenCen. Ed Whitacre Jr., hasn't been CEO for long but he's made some significant changes within the upper ranks of GM's management and it appears he's not done. If rumors are true, Whitacre is going back to something Fritz Henderson did when he was CEO of GM.

Is this a sign that Fritz' welcome back to GM means he has more "pull" then we all think, or is Ed willing to admit through actions he made a mistake?

China Rejects One GM Deal Today....Approves Another

TheGMSource - Unfortunate for Hummer owners, enthusiasts, dealers, and especially employees the Chinese Government reportedly rejected Sichuan Tengzhong Heavy Industrial Machinery Company Ltd. offer to buy the brand that was for sale by GM. I have my own beliefs on that and believe that Tengzhong never planned to buy the brand at all. Another story for another day, I understand.

While they reportedly rejected the deal to purchase Hummer which was rumored to be worth as much as $200 million, they did approve of a different deal involving GM worth $85 million.
