Bob King Is The New UAW President

TheGMSource - When UAW President Ron Gettlefinger announced his retirement last year Bob King was pegged as his replacement. King, who has lead Fords negotations for years has said he would like to end the concessions the UAW has agreed to in recent years in an attempt to keep Chrysler, GM and Ford out of bankruptcy. It worked at Ford, not so much at GM and Chrysler.

Bob King recently lead the efforts to renegotiate a contract with Ford that would call for more employee buy-outs and changes to how workers are classified at the automaker. The deal was pegged to save Ford millions, possibly billions but was shot down by the UAW's Ford rank & file membership last year. UAW members said that the new agreement was not necessary because Ford was making money and on a path to recovery, unlike its crosstown rivals GM and Chrysler.

Under the UAW's mandatory 65-and out reitrement policy, King can only run for one term.
